Hey Guys!

I have decided to get shredded, or at least attempt to. I have wrote countless articles on Commander Go Pack and Bliss Go Pack, but I am going to be a guinea pig and keep a journal of my progress cutting. I am currently 187.8 pounds and 5’8 (28.6 BMI).

Perimeters: Goal is to keep calories around 1800 and then taper them down as I see how my body responds to dieting. I will eat between 150-200 grams of protein, leaving the rest of my calories to carbs and fats. I am hoping to lose between 7-10 pounds in 30 days.

September 23rd 2016 Update

Wow, I am kicking ass with Commander Go Pack. I’ve been keeping calories around 1800 and protein between 150-200 per day. 1 or 2 cheat meals a week.

Earlier this week I weighed in at 177.0! That’s 10.8 pounds down in less than a month!

The Colorado Experiment: How One Man Gained 63 Pounds of Muscle in 28 Days. 

Meet Casey Viator. On April 30, 1973 Casey is an athletic 21 year old that weighs 166 pounds and is 5’8. Fast forward 28 days, Casey now weighs 212 pounds. Casey net gained 63 pounds of muscle in just 28 days. This was done without steroids.

What the story fails to take into account are a few important facts.

  • Casey Viator was a known bodybuilder before the experiment. Casey Viator had great genetics for muscle growth and ended up becoming a very successful pro bodybuilder later in his life.
  • Casey Viator was the AAU Mr. America bodybuilding contest in 1971 at the weight of 218 pounds. Why did Casey only weigh 166 at the beginning of the experiment?

  • Weight training with a formal program with the appropriate diet has the best results.
  • Casey had expert scientists working with him on his workout and meal plan.
  • Although getting these results again would be near impossible, it does show the importance of a sound program, sound nutrition, and muscle memory.

 

How I would change this program 40 years later…

  1. The program itself concentrated on short breaks between sets, one rest day following each workout, and 6 meals a day. I would consider keeping all of these in place.
  2. I would add Phormula-1 and Ignition post workout on workout days, MegaWatt V2 daily, fish oil for recovery and overall health, creatine for recovery and growth, and a multi-vitamin daily. 
  3. The workout focused on a lot of negative reps. I would keep this in the program but add stretching to the end of every workout.

Earlier this year I said that I thought that Kevin Levrone might be making a comeback. I was hoping that he would compete at the first ever Levrone Pro Classic in Poland. I was wrong. Then at the IFBB Pittsburgh Pro Show, Kevin shocked the world to announce that at 52 years old, he will be coming out of retirement and competing at the 2016 Mr. Olympia.

How?

The IFBB can give special exemptions to bodybuilders who didn’t qualify for the Mr. Olympia. The last I can remember was Gunter Schlierkamp in 2002. This means that Kevin can focus on growing into the 2016 Mr. Olympia (something he is famous for) and not having to contest prep multiple times.

Why?

Kevin doesn’t need to compete, he wants to. Kevin also has a supplement company that will benefit from his exposure.

I’m not a hater, but I don’t think Kevin will win. It wouldn’t surprise me if he finished in the top 10. I’d be shocked and super happy if he finished in the top 5. His genetics will allow him to grow into the contest. Last reports said he was 250 pounds!

Kevin is known to be a little different when it comes to training and dieting. One of his secrets was to drink vodka mixed with coffee the night before contest to dry out. Before the 1997 Russian Grand Prix, Kevin had Ronnie try the concoction and Ronnie actually beat Kevin the next day!
